Paternity Leave

So, you might have noticed that there was no new episode this week?

You didn't?

Huh!

Oh well.  There was no new episode this week!  That was because for all of last week I managed to write exactly zero new words of Shadow.  I was tired and lazy and my mind was entirely on other things.

You see, in probably no more than two and a bit days, I am going to be a father in a very real and biologically compelling sense and right now that is making me about the least productive person I know.  I have been incapacitated with anxiety, dulled with sleeplessness, or just zoned out in a sort of zen preparation trance... or something.

Shadow is certainly not the only thing to have suffered, in fact, as my colleagues over at Combom will attest, it has actually been the last in a longer line of steadily failed commitments.  It was my intention to put Shadow on a brief hiatus once the baby came, but I'm calling my paternity leave now.  Story-wise it's actually a very good place to pause.  Sarah's section of the tale is over for now and when I return in a few weeks time (and I PROMISE that I will return - I'm not done with this story by a long shot, yet) we'll head back to Ellis, Siren, the Former Baron and all those other  misfits onboard Lord Blood Dragon's steam barge.

There will be adventure, there will be romance, there will be comedy and there will be dramatic twists and turns a-plenty, but, if you'll forgive me the break, for now there will just be rest and waiting and then will come the nappies, the morning feeds and the myriad (genuine) joys of fatherhood.  I look forward to seeing you (and my newborn) on the flipside!

I'll aim to have another update, if not an episode, shortly after the baby is born, followed by relatively frequent updates to let you know what is happening, so keep checking back and you won't miss out when the show gets back on the road.  Until next time, then,
